I have had quite break from writing in this blog. I will make these reasons more visible as time goes by, for today however, I thought I’d pick up some recent thinking I’ve been doing about the embodiment of illness.
I went to my regular physiotherapy appointment this week and when asked how I was I answered that in the intervening weeks I’d felt a bit ordinary. The physio responded “I’m not interested in that, just tell me about the bits I’m working on.”
Fortunately we have been working together for quite some time and rather than being shut down by this response I engaged in a conversation about the body as object and the body as subject.
For me this is such an important idea when living my life with a chronic illness.
